Three Reasons To Add A Skylight To Your Home Before Next Winter

by Frank Elliott

Spring has arrived in Australia, and the early winter sunsets are slowly becoming a thing of the past. You are probably glad to see sunlight again because many areas of your home can be quite dark. The addition of skylight windows is an excellent solution for brightening a home because it lets in more natural light, which means you don't have to resort to artificial lights. Here are three great reasons to fight back against winter darkness by installing skylight windows.

Daylight Encourages Getting Out Of Bed

On a dreary day, it is hard enough to get yourself motivated to get out of bed, but it's doubly hard when a lack of light in winter makes your home feel dull all the time. People who don't fight back against the winter darkness can suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. One symptom which SAD sufferers experience is an increase in sleep because of the lack of desire to get out of bed. However, not only is this bad for your health, but staying in bed doesn't help get the kids ready for school or household chores done. Installation of a skylight window in the bedroom allows more natural light into the room. This natural light is the push you need to get out of the bed on winter mornings.

Daylight Encourages Exercise

One way to fight back against SAD is to increase the amount of exercise you do. However, who wants to head outside on gloomy winter days to work out? Buy yourself some home gym equipment such as an exercise bike or a treadmill, and set it up in a room under a newly installed skylight window. You'll enjoy natural light while exercising, which in turn raises the endorphin chemicals in your body. This creates a happy feeling without going outside to get cold.

Daylight Encourages Cooking

The kitchen is one room in the house where you spend a lot of time, but who gets inspired by cooking in a dark, dreary space? A skylight window in the kitchen brightens up the room with natural light, and this means you are going to want to spend more time in there.

Installation of skylight windows takes planning and time so now is the perfect opportunity to begin discussions with your local contractor. They can help you decide the design and placement of the windows to best suit your needs. Once these decisions are made, the windows are installed well before winter comes rolling around again.

About Me

Calling in the Contractors

Hello! My name is Andy and I have recently finished building my dream home by the ocean. I have always loved swimming and surfing in the sea so the idea of living by the beach has always appealed to me. I used to live in a small apartment but I worked hard and saved as much cash as I could. By the time I reached the age of 47, I finally had the funds to build my dream home. I called in a team of construction contractors who built my house. They were really great guys and I picked up a lot of knowledge during the months they were working with me. I will share some of the knowledge here.
